A big part of the WLTSC community is the inclusivity we pride ourselves on and the many activities open to all abilities at the club.
Following a previous post of WLTSC with Wolves, the images featured a frequent junior WLTSC visitor that deserves to be showcased.

Emily joined our mini red tennis sessions and took part in wheelchair tennis with a wheelchair that was kindly donated by the LTA. She underwent a number of weeks at WLTSC, improving on her tennis journey.
In addition, Emily was chosen by Wolves to be the โ€œdisability mattersโ€ representative and recently a mascot for the Wolves at Leicester away game. Having been a Wolves season ticket holder since she was a toddler, the club wanted to celebrate how she has overcome the many difficulties and challenges that she has had. She met all the players, including her favourite Neves, and led the team out.
“WLTSC did so much for her and were all so kind to her.”-Emily’s mom, Mel.

As a key part of the local Wolverhampton Community, we have always had great admiration for our successful home team. WLTSC often finds itself in a position of great links with Wolves and below is just some of the many recent success stories weโ€™ve had the pleasure to share with you:
  • ๐——๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น ๐——๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—บ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ– Junior member Donell proudly waved the flag for Wolves as a match mascot during the Wolves awayย  ย  ย game against Leicester City at the King Power stadium. Although not the results the fans had hoped for that day, we hope Donell had a great day getting a first-hand experience of the buzz of a Wolves away game and getting chance to grab a high five with a local fan favourite Rรบben Neves!
  • ๐—”๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜„– A longstanding member of WLTSC Anne Crawshaw was invited to be the recipient in receiving a Wolves shirt during a special presentation in recognition of her late father Bert Williams. Bert had hit an astonishing 420 caps for Wolves and at the time of his death was the oldest living England international! Both Anne and Amber (below) attended the special evening with both earning special recognition.
  • ๐—”๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—™๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„๐˜€– Our very own Tennis coach Amber Fellows has successfully made over 300 appearances on behalf of Wolves women! Herself and both former and current players who have made this honourable milestone were privileged to have been invited along to attend a Wolves 300 club event. During the event Amber was presented with her own named plaque upon a coveted honours board. Well done Ambs, amazing achievement!
After a special unveiling event last week, the 300 Club board featuring both Amber Fellows and Bert Williams now has a permanent home at Molineux!

Getting children stoked for Commonwealth Games

WLTSC opens its doors to children to stoke excitement ahead of Commonwealth Games. Last summer, a year before the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, organisers announced that they wanted to give one million children an authentic Games experience.

On Friday, the Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis and Squash Club fulfilled that dream and opened its doors to schools and members of the local community to get them involved in six sports which will take pride of place at the Games.

Children from seven schools got the run of the club until 2pm, where they got to try out squash, boxing, wrestling, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, and archery.

July is for Juniors

WOW what a month weโ€™ve had at WLTSC. Juniors from our club, local schools and squash players from far and wide, have been the main focus this month. They have given us joy & laughter and pride at their keenness and dedication to trying something new, developing their skills and representing our club and themselves.

Special Educational Needs and Disability/Junior development fundraiser 29 June

Long standing member of the club, John Vaughan passed away a number of years ago. He wanted to leave a lasting legacy so his family very kindly donated some money to create our John Vaughan SEND and Jnr Development Fund.

Since then we have had many donations and a special post covid fundraising event in June 2021 raised an additional ยฃ5,000. As of 8th November 2021, the John Vaughan SEND & Jnr Development Fund amounts to ยฃ7,778.53.

RAF

This week we have welcomed back the RAF for their Inter Station Coaching Sessions and Competition. The RAF have become a wonderful addition to our club and we look forward to continuing our links with them in the future.

Regional Masters Squash Tournament

Regional Masters Squash Tournament is a hit for players

Squash players from across the country gathered at Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club (WLTSC) last weekend to take part in a masters competition.

Pictured L/R Neil Patel (Over 50s plate winner), Jane Hatton (Over 60s 5th place) and Mike Harris (Over 50s runner up) all from Wolverhampton.

The tournament ran for three days, with the finals across a variety of age groups on Sunday, November 6.

The event comes after the success of team England on the international stage at the Commonwealth Games, where they won five medals, and now WLTSC hosted this regional tournament to give players from different backgrounds the opportunity to play competitive squash.

The age categories ranged between 35-75 for men and 30-60 for women.

Helen Tottey, director of squash and racketball at WLTSC, said the competition was a ‘great success and added that the standard of the play was ‘very competitive’.

She said: “We were really pleased to host such a prestigious event at WLTSC.

“It was a great success with very competitive squash games.

“There were 190 entrants, and 15 of our own members enjoyed playing in the competition, and many more enjoyed watching on.

“Our aim is to help promote the benefits of squash from all levels and this event showed how competitive squash can be enjoyed up to 70+ years.

“We were really pleased to have both of our squash coaches reach their respective age category finals.

“Darren Lewis won the over 40s category 3-0 and Mike Harris, unfortunately, lost 2-3 in the over 50s, but it was a great game.”
