About Us
Set within a picturesque location between Wolverhampton City Centre and Tettenhall, Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis & Squash Club (WLTSC) is one of the region’s most established and welcoming sporting communities.
Our Story
Our history dates back over a century, with the earliest recorded mention appearing in the Wolverhampton Red Book of 1891, when the Club was known as the Newbridge Lawn Tennis Club, based at Newbridge Crescent. In 1913, the Club relocated to Albert Road, just before the outbreak of the First World War.
Following the war, the Club evolved with the introduction of four hard courts, funded through a member-backed loan which was successfully repaid during the prosperous years that followed. As the sporting landscape changed and the need for year-round facilities became clear, a new chapter began.
In 1938, the Club moved to its current home at Neville Lodge, Newbridge Crescent. This marked a significant transformation, with the addition of squash courts, improved tennis facilities including both hard and grass courts, and enhanced social amenities. The site remains one of the most attractive and conveniently located sporting venues in the area.
A Thriving Club Today
Today, WLTSC is a vibrant and inclusive club with a membership of over 1,000 people of all ages and abilities. While we celebrate competitive success across tennis, squash, and racketball, we take just as much pride in providing a welcoming environment for beginners, social players, and those simply looking to stay active.
Health, wellbeing, and community are at the heart of everything we do. Our busy programme of fitness classes and social activities creates a strong sense of togetherness, with members supporting and motivating one another both on and off the court.
We are also proud to play an active role within the wider community, working closely with local schools, SEND groups, charities, and community organisations to help make sport, fitness, and wellbeing accessible to all. Through inclusive sessions, partnerships, and outreach initiatives, we aim to create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to feel welcomed, supported, and involved within the club.
With over 600 daily visits, a growing digital presence, and regular media coverage, the club continues to play a key role in the local sporting and business community.
